Mission + Values

fieldnotes. (fn.) is a Black cultural studio that documents, preserves, and activates Black stories as strategies for education, healing, and liberation. Through creative research, community archiving, and public storytelling, we partner with institutions and local organizers to build tools, exhibitions, and experiences that center Black memory, joy, and imagination across generations.

Curious about working with Fieldnotes.? We’re currently accepting new clients for Fall 2025. Whether you need a one-time clarity session or long-term strategic support, we offer free 20-minute discovery calls to see if it’s a good fit.

Core Values

As we strive to achieve our mission and embody our vision, we are guided by our values, + always reflect upon how we can best:

  • We honor the knowledge, rituals, and lineages that live within Black communities across generations.

  • We blend research, art, and organizing to chart new possibilities for Black life—grounded in practice, guided by vision.

  • We document the everyday and the ancestral as acts of truth-telling, creative autonomy, and cultural power.

  • We affirm joy as a daily and collective act of resistance, healing, and imagination.

  • We center Black people as the authors, archivists, and interpreters of our own stories.
